In October 2015 NETfficient partner Ayuntamiento de Santander (Santander City Council) participated in the 5th edition of “Greencities & Sustainability” in the Spanish city of Málaga (http://greencities.malaga.eu/en/). This event’s programme was comprised of scientific communications, an exhibition event and a networking area in addition to several national and international topic related meetings. It is considered to be one of the largest Spanish showcases about research and innovation in urban sustainability.
One of these parallel meetings has been conducted by the Spanish Smart City Network (RECI). This organization, of which Santander’s Mayor is currently the president, is composed of 65 cities. The main objective of the meeting has been to share the most recent set of activities carried out by its 5 working groups and to define new lines of action pointed toward a new city model. This model should allow infrastructures and urban services with efficient and automated management, growing economic activity and progress through reduction of public expenses and further enhanced service quality.
Therefore, the model developed in this meeting is well consistent with NETfficient’s aim to deploy a real smart-city and complies with Santander City Councils project contribution to promote and further develop the replicability of the project results in other more standard city models and foster the spread of new types of technologies, procedures and infrastructures produced within project.
