The island of Borkum between September 25 – 27, 2015 held its yearly Energy- and Water Days offering an enlightening programme with presentations around the topic “Energy” attracting numerous visitors and experts. During the event an introduction on the EU-project “NETfficient” was given as Borkum constitutes the site of project implementation.
On Friday evening the Energy- and Water days were officially “Kicked-off” with an opening speech of, Mr. Göran Sell, Managing Director of the “Wirtschaftsbetriebe Borkum”, partner in NETfficient, followed by Dr. Reinhold Kassing, President of the Association of German Municipal Enterprises (VKU) pointing out the “risks and chances of the energy transition”.
On Saturday the main attraction, the “Hausmesse” took place, where various exhibitors presented their products and services around the fields of energy, electric mobility and more. This gave visitors practical insights, testing opportunities and information on sustainable energy systems, modern technologies, methods and mechanisms for energy-saving.
Industry partners in the project NETfficient also presented their innovative products and thereby won 15 possible partners for the project’s use case “homes” and 3 for the use case “buildings”.
The second day of the event offered a comprehensive programme of seminars and lectures, with contributions of renowned experts towards actual and regional energy topics, e. g. energy costs and energy independency. Among these, the project “NETfficient”, which aims at innovating the use and distribution of power through a smart electric grid on the island of Borkum, was presented.
On Sunday the Energy- and Water days, Frerk Veens, who sets an example in environmentally friendly production in his ice production, was announced “energy- and water ambassador” by the chairman of the supervisory board of the city of Borkum, Hans-Georg Fuhs.
For the project NETfficient and the involved partners the Energy- and Water Days was the first opportunity to officially present itself on the project implementation site and to the inhabitants of the island of Borkum. Transparency for the potential users and their active involvement are considered as key to the success of the project NETfficient.
