In the following, read the inspiring “Toast to NETfficient” held by Axel Held, Plant Manager at the “Stadtwerke Borkum GmbH” during the first partner meeting on June 25, 2015 on the island of Borkum.
“… Coal, gas and nuclear were yesterday, but the generation of renewable energy is today and will be the future!
After several years in the development phase we have already achieved a great deal. Gigantic off-shore wind parks right outside the building are producing an almost continuous supply of energy, on-shore turbines are becoming more and more effective; and thanks to years of promoting photovoltaic facilities, we are also able to exploit every hour of sunshine to produce electricity.
But we still have a large challenge ahead of us, which is why we’re all here today. After all, it is of utmost importance that we don’t let this green energy go to waste. Instead, it must be stored and made available to everybody even if the wind doesn’t blow or the sun doesn’t shine!
That is what our NETfficient project is all about, and I’m certain that we’ll be able to achieve it together if we develop means of storage that will allow us to realise intelligent power grid management.
… the future of energy generation and self-sufficiency depends to a great extent on our work. We can successfully master this highly important project if we work together and make use of the financial support of the European Union! …”
